RiverRidge Closed December 24 through 26

What’s happenin’?

Wow where did 2019 go?!  Christmas is two days away, and the New Year begins next week.  While I was in Bandon last week, my buddies and I reminisced about the year…and properly celebrated the successes.

Just like every year, there were highlights and low lights.  My fiance’s oldest son graduated high school and got a job, and I’m very proud of his accomplishments.  My grandfather, Richard “Dick” Malmo, passed away, but I was given the privilege of speaking at his memorial service.  He had an unbelievable impact on my life and certainly influenced my decision to become a golf professional.

My best friend got married, and I had the honor of serving as his best man.  The couple planned the best wedding, and it’s a day I’ll always remember.  One week later I officiated my first wedding for a close friend and former RiverRidge employee which was another epic party.

We lost Bud Wicks.  If you haven’t already, you should read Ric Jeffries’ touching tribute: https://www.riverridgeor.com/thank-you-bud/

RiverRidge teams won four Oregon Chapter PGA Pro Ams (we had zero victories with me as the pro heading into the season).  We had a record number of participants (56) in PGA Jr. League (thank you to Jennifer Kern and Zaanan Tellschow for helping me survive the season) and hosted many new events including tournaments for Oregon Hockey, Playground Sports, and Direction Service.  Pat Church won the United States Golf Teachers Cup.

We experienced some wild weather in 2019.  Typically snow will close the golf course for a few days each year, but we were closed for almost two weeks in late February/early March.  Also the golf course flooded for the first time since I’ve been employed at RiverRidge (13 years for those counting at home).  Thank you to Golf Course Superintendent Rory Allison for working around the clock to pump the water back into the river and open the golf course as quickly as possible.

My fiance started a new job (she’s now my fancy downtown working gal), but I’m forever grateful for her previous employer providing an opportunity my family needed.  My sister gave me another nephew, Cruz (still waiting on that first niece on my side of the family).  Several more friends got engaged including another former RiverRidge employee.

I’m looking forward to what’s in store for 2020.  My fiance should be fully recovered from her ACL surgery (oh that happened in 2019 too haha).  We are in the process of purchasing a home.  Oh and there’s that whole wedding thing…

I live a blessed life, and I’m reminded everyday just how lucky I am.  Thank you for supporting our business and providing our team with the quality of life we enjoy.

RiverRidge will be closed December 24 through 26 so staff can celebrate Christmas with family and friends.  Please be safe if you are traveling.

Cheers,

Aaron Oakley
